D-Munich Werkbund housing development
To mark the 100th anniversary of the German Werkbund, a “Werkbund housing development” is to be erected in Munich. The concept of a Werkbund housing estate stands for forward-looking experimentation and exemplary architecture in the areas of social housing and private residential development. The challenge consists in integrating evident transformations in social structures and in society as a whole with new approaches to generating artistic, functional, ecological and constructive architectural models.
36 international architectural practices were invited to participate in the competition “Werkbundsiedlung Wiesenfeld.” Chosen as prize winner was the urban planning concept proposed by Japanese architect Kanzunari Sakamoto.
The teams that had been awarded with prizes for an exemplary residence were invited to submit test designs, and will participate in the realization phase.
The planning team consisting of ASTOC/KCAP, bayer uhrig and Realgrün Landschaftsarchitekten attempted to come to terms with the selected model quadrant in both urban planning and architectonic terms.
