2nd prize: Former Daimler housing estate Stuttgart

2nd prize: Former Daimler housing estate Stuttgart

When is one happy about a second prize? When there is no first prize - like now in the planning competition for the former Daimler housing estate in Stuttgart's Hallschlag district.

The jury awarded our competition entry, which we developed together with Glück Landschaftsarchitektur, 2nd prize. Now the next phase of the process will be the negotiation talks with the GWG Group as the owner and responsible party.

The former Daimler housing estate - built in the 1960s as a factory housing estate with two high-rise buildings, eight housing estate buildings and about 800 residential units - is to be reorganised in terms of urban development and redensified by about 270 new residential units. For this purpose, we have developed an overall urban and open space planning concept that integrates the Daimlersiedlung more strongly into its neighbourhood and upgrades its open spaces. A new development connects the currently fragmented situation, integrates stand-alone buildings and creates a transition from the lower development in the west to the east side, which is characterised by high-rise buildings. The upgrading of the open space and the exemplary sustainability and energy concept radiate beyond the planning area into the neighbourhood and allow the entire Hallschlag district to benefit from the measure.
